We are proud of our colleague, John N. Katopodis, M.D., selected as the recipient of the 2019 Capital Medical Society Outstanding Physician Award.  This award honors a physician who has demonstrated leadership within the field of medicine and political activities, clinical excellence, and contributions to education, particularly concerning medical students.   


An SMG colleague since 1995, Dr. Katopodis has been a leader throughout his career focusing to promote quality patient care in the community as well as the state as Florida Medical Association President.   


We thank Capital Medical Society and its members for recognizing Dr. Katopodis with this prestigious award.


Well done, Dr. Katopodis.

Southern Medical Group, P.A. congratulates our colleague, John N. Katopodis, M.D., 2017-2018 Florida Medical Association President.

Dr. Katopodis joined SMG in 1995 as an interventional cardiologist and has remained at the forefront in treating patients suffering from a variety of cardiac conditions. As current Chair of the SMG Cardiology Division, Dr. Katopodis works closely with our physicians and staff to provide corporate and clinical leadership, always placing the patient needs at the center of all decision making.

We are proud of Dr. Katopodis and trust he will represent Florida physicians well as FMA President.

Southern Medical Group and TMH Physician Partners are happy to announce the opening of the Comprehensive Circulation Clinic within the Southern Medical Group location at 1300 Medical Drive in Tallahassee. This clinic offers a multidisciplinary approach to peripheral arterial and venous disease, which includes the entire spectrum of disease states and services.

Our team offers services from peripheral vascular screening to state-of-the-art endovascular and open vascular approaches to advanced disease states. We have on site ICAEL certified arterial and venous duplex scanning and work closely with the Tallahassee Memorial Wound Healing Center and TMH Physicians Partners - Metabolic Health Center to provide extensive secondary risk prevention consultative services.

SMG is once again honored with continued recognition of our stellar physicians.   Dr. Batchelor was nominated and selected for the Capital Medical Society 2017 Outstanding Physician Award to be presented at the CMS Awards dinner on March 30, 2017. 

We are most proud of Dr. Batchelor as an outstanding cardiologist, leader, and for the thoughtful care he exhibits toward his patients, colleagues and staff. 

Congratulations to Dr. Batchelor for this most worthy honor.

John Katopodis, M.D. is now President-elect for the 2016-2017 Florida Medical Association Board of Governors, as decided at the 2016 FMA Annual Meeting in Orlando.

SMG Cardiology Division is pleased to welcome Drs. Gregory Hartlage and Gian-Carlo Giove beginning August 2, 2015.

With deep roots in the Tallahassee community, we welcome Dr. Greg Hartlage home following extensive training including medical school at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, an internal medicine residency at the renowned J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program, Emory University, followed by Cardiovascular Disease fellowship also at Emory.  Dr. Hartlage chose to extend his training to include a recently completed Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging fellowship at University of South Florida.  We look forward to working with Dr. Hartlage and trust he will provide excellent cardiac care to our community.

To further expand our Cardiology services, we announce the addition of Dr. Gian-Carlo Giove.  Dr. Giove comes to us from the University of Alabama following completion of Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Disease fellowships and an internal medicine residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  Dr. Giove also held a research fellowship position in Heart Failure and Transplantation at the Texas Heart Institute, Dallas Texas and has numerous presentations and publications to his credit.  We welcome Dr. Giove to our region and feel confident in the expertise he brings to the community we serve.

The Tallahassee Democrat featured a fantastic article this week about a new heart procedure being performed by SMG physicians called WATCHMAN, which helps prevent strokes for patients with irregular heartbeats.
