Cardiothoracic Surgeon

As the north Florida region's leading provider of cardiovascular care, Southern Medical Group, P.A., is seeking a highly trained and highly skilled cardiac thoracic surgeon to join our team of three experienced cardiothoracic surgeons. We are an integrated practice with Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, this opportunity allows a highly-motivated surgeon to showcase skills and be competitively rewarded for efforts.

Ideal candidate would be board certified/eligible in cardiothoracic surgery, have an established track record with minimum of three years post fellowship experience in an advanced cardiac program with participation in STS, and proven abilities demonstrated through positive patient outcomes. Additional training and experience in vascular surgery desired, board certification preferred. 

Excellent communication skills required to increase referral base and assist to further expand services to include establishment of VAD program (with strong established transplant transfer), thoracic and abdominal aortic surgical and interventional procedures, robotic mitral and valve surgery, hybrid PCI and heart failure, Hybrid AF ablation and Stellate ganglionectomy.

Our renowned cardiac service line includes four electrophysiologists, four percutaneous interventionalists, general cardiology including four trained/certified imaging and a heart failure specialist. Practice includes treatment and management of peripheral artery disease, advanced EP procedures Left Atrial Appendage management (Watchmnan, Amulet Study,and Atriclip), Heart Failure Clinic, Vein Clinic, PVD Clinic, TAVR, MitraClip and a well-established research institute. 

Southern Medical Group also includes Internal Medicine and Family Medicine providers.

General Cardiologist

Southern Medical Group, P.A. (SMG), Tallahassee, FL, seeks non-invasive, non-interventional general cardiologist to be a part of an exceptional opportunity. Successful candidate will be fellowship trained with extensive experience in all aspects of inpatient/outpatient general cardiology with imaging and heart failure preferred.  This is a new position and is not replacing a retiring physician. 

SMG Cardiology Division is a progressive, well-established integrated practice composed of fifteen cardiologists (four interventionists, four electrophysiologists, five general/imaging as well as Heart Failure specialist). The SMG practice has also 12 Internal Medicine and family medicine and is affiliated through a Professional Service Agreement with Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (tmh.org).   Cardiology holds a contract and is actively engaged in cardiac comanagement at TMH. 

Non-invasive cardiologists have a full range of diagnostic capabilities with nuclear imaging, CT angiography, and cardiac MRI.  Diagnostic services support the structural valve clinic and atrial fibrillation clinic.  Our office also has a vein clinic and diagnostic services for peripheral vascular and carotid disease management.  

On January 1, 2017, Cardiology expanded to include Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery welcoming three colleagues and recruiting a fourth in August, 2017.  

We are active in research and education and own and operate a well-developed, independent clinical research institute (Tallahassee Research Institute), which has participated in over 100 clinical trials in the past decade and is active in multiple new device and pharmaceutical studies. SMG physicians also serve on faculty at the Florida State University College of Medicine and as preceptors with the FSU College of

Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program, TMH Family Practice Residency Programs and the Florida A & M School of Pharmacy.

Tallahassee is the capital of Florida and located in the panhandle, just one hour to beautiful beaches. The city offers excellent schools, state government and cultural activities.

Job Requirements:

* Practice to be general cardiology office to include hospital coverage with admitting and consulting privileges at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.

* Establishes relationship with referring physicians in the community and hospital.

* Board Certification/Board eligible in Cardiovascular Disease. 

* Participation in medical outreach. 

* Call responsibility approximately 1:6 weekends to include hospital consults and cardiology coverage.

Full-Time Scribe

Reports directly to physician and under a direct physician’s direct oversight and control, although not directly assisting in the delivery of patient care, effectively increases efficiency via minimizing the physician’s clerical functions while maximizing the physician’s clinical role – thus improving patient flow and satisfaction.  Position is employed by Southern Medical Group.  Position provides assistance with all clerical and clinical activities inherent to physicians practicing in a direct care capacity at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Physician Partners (TMHPP).  All activities will be under the direct oversight and control of the physician with adherence to TMH/TMHPP guidelines. 

Job Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred.  Excellent  English language skills.
  • Experience: Must demonstrate exposure to and knowledge of medical terminology, spelling, grammar and punctuation; healthcare experience in one or more care environments is required. 
  • Skills: Excellent key board skills required.   Strong organizational skills.  Ability to concentrate for long periods with careful attention to detail. 
  • Equipment Operated: Use of computer/health information management system.
  • Work Environment: Combination of exam rooms, medical offices and hospital. 
  • Mental/Physical Requirements: May require standing or walking for extensive period of time.   Requires long periods of concentration with careful attention to detail.
